TEDxSanAntonio Salon and San Antonio Peace Center Bring Compassion and Caring Event

The San Antonio Peace Center at Northwest Vista College is proud to sponsor TEDxSanAntonio Salon on Thursday, May 18 for a full day of Compassion, Caring and Community from 10am-3pm at the Palmetto Center for the Arts theater.

Participants will hear exciting talks centered on building compassionate communities, social responsibility, and emotional intelligence. TEDxSanAntonio Salon events provide a forum for thinkers, explorers, makers, doers, performers, and artists who believe passionately in the power of ideas as a catalyst for positive change in San Antonio and around the world.

Some of the speakers at the event include:

  • Sinclair Cesar, CEO Sinclairity Consulting – Mental health first aid through storytelling.

  • Nishant Vishwamitra, assistant professor at UTSA – How generative AI could help mitigate cyber bullying.

  • Mindy Spigel, nurse, speaker, consultant, author – Developing skills to help others feel safe in the healthcare setting and beyond.

  • Bria Woods, photojournalist – Advocating for policy and programming to assist formerly incarcerated individuals to land and thrive outside of custody.

  • Amber Ybarra, small business owner, speaker, mentor – Exploring the transformative power of collective healing in the face of shared traumas.

  • Jesse Hernandez, therapist – Helping boys develop emotional intelligence skills, self-expression, and compassion.

  • Shirelle Zachery, human resources manager – Building compassionate leaders by embracing genuine connection and prioritizing the well-being of employees.

Just last year, the San Antonio Peace Center, located at Northwest Vista College, launched CompassionateUSA with the Alamo Colleges and the City of San Antonio.  The CompassionateUSA campaign includes a video series and toolkit to introduce learners to key concepts about compassion; and a free micro course offered through Coursera to deepen understanding and skills. Some of the concepts and teachings from CompassionateUSA will be incorporated into the TEDx San Antonio event.

This event is open to the public and tickets are on sale via Eventbrite. NVC faculty, staff and students have an opportunity to get discounted tickets (while supplies last) by using the promo code NWVCCC through May 18.
