Explaining Summer Momentum to Students

The Expanded Summer Momentum Program offers eligible students FREE academic credit hours. Here are items to share with students to help them understand the program.

Any student who is currently enrolled in the Spring 2022 term is eligible as long as he or she has a GPA of 2.0 or better as of May 21, 2022. The free hours must be taken in the Summer 2022 semester.

  • Part-time students are those who attempted up to 11 credit hours in Spring 2021.
  • Full-time students attempted 12 or more credit hours in Spring 2022.
  • Eligible students may attend any of the five colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, which offer fields of study in a wide range of areas, including accounting, biotechnology, business, computer science, criminal justice, early childhood education, nursing, and paralegal. Students are encouraged to take hours within their program plans.
  • The Expanded Summer Momentum Plan is a last-dollar scholarship in most cases that will cover tuition after all other financial aid resources have been awarded. Financial aid resources include grants, scholarships and aid for military families.
  • ‘Transfer’, ‘Transient’, Dual Credit, Early College High School and ‘Former/Returning’ students are not eligible to participate.
  • Students do not need to be approved for the Expanded Summer Momentum Plan. They just need to meet the earned credit hour and GPA requirements outlined above.
  • Students can split the credit hours (for the different summer terms), as long as the student is enrolled in 6 hours total for the summer semester.
  • Expanded Summer Momentum credits cannot be applied to Maymester and/or Summer I 8-week classes.
  • Students do not need to apply for financial aid to be eligible for ESMP.
