[image 1]As part of the Friday faculty development sessions, Alamo Colleges Chancellor Bruce Leslie paid a visit to NVC to chat with faculty.
The goal of the session was to allow the chancellor and faculty members to get to know each other in an informal setting. In additional to telling attendees about his background in music, the chancellor addressed many of the issues being circulated in the news, such as e-Books and EDUC 1300. A few faculty members were able to address their concerns to him from not cutting ethnic studies classes, communicating better with employees, being sensitive to student needs, and various types of electronic resources including e-books and open source materials.
Leslie said data shows that successful students must be ready from day one, which includes having money for needs such as daycare, gas and food in the house. He added students also need books for the classroom on day one.
[image 2]”All of us need to work as a team. We shouldn't allow any student to be disadvantaged based on where they live. I know the history of the Alamo Colleges is that campuses are used to doing their own thing, but we have to have equality for every student no matter where they go because we can't just keep raising tuition,” Leslie said.
He encouraged everyone to keep giving their feedback and to try to read his emails about his vision for the Alamo Colleges. He acknowledged that's easier said than done since we all get too many emails.
