The time has come for Sparkle and me to part. The individual who is the recipient of the February 2024 NVC Wildcat Spirit award shines like the sun! She approaches her work with students with immense kindness, compassion, and respect. The infectious energy, warmth, and commitment she has for helping NVC students succeed illustrate one of her most profound convictions—that education is the key to transforming lives.
This month’s Wildcat Spirit Award recipient is a tireless advocate for positive change, and does not hesitate to work collaboratively for the good of NVC and our students. She is incredibly intelligent and a dedicated scholar who continuously digests the most current investigations and best-practice studies that impact student learning outcomes. She has developed and won numerous grants, that are based on promising research and designed with the success of our students at the forefront. Her enviable organizational skills, her integrity, her commendable work ethic, and accountability make her a grant auditor’s dream come true. I have to add, that all the amazing and impacting grant projects that this individual has implemented and led, which includes the gathering and analysis of data, budget management, and performance reporting, have been done with no less than a vibrant and dedicated, spirit and with no compensation, because staff are not permitted to be compensated for work preformed on grant projects. But the fact that she cannot be compensated for working on grants has never dissuaded her to continue pursuing, developing and implementing student-centered grant funded projects, because for this individual, it is far more important to help students out of the cycle of poverty and onto a successful life path. She literally and selflessly changes students’ lives for the better.
