Friends of the Arts (FANs) at Northwest Vista, a dedicated group of community people, faculty, and staff, were surprised when we learned after a first ever complete review of the required supply lists that students in fine and performing arts courses were being required to fund some $30,000 on top of tuition each semester for supplies, equipment, and materials.
A campaign was immediately launched to cover the cost of these art supplies last year and FANs has adopted a goal of providing these almost 400 art student with the materials needed for their courses next year with support of local businesses who have agreed to provide low cost with bulk orders.
Many of our students are from low-income families and are the first to go to college. Helping students lift this obstacle may inspire them be the next architect, muralist or even art instructor. Friends of the Arts (FANs) mission is to support and promote the programs, events, and students in the Fine and Performing Arts at Northwest Vista College and beyond with the following objectives:
To financially support and promote all Fine and Performing Arts programs at NVC.
To stimulate interest and awareness in the Fine and Performing Arts to the Northwest Community, people residing and employed in the vicinity of NVC.
To raise funds to provide students with scholarships and experiential learning opportunities in the Fine and Performing Arts at NVC.
