SACS World Tour

[image 1]On Friday, Sept. 18, employees across the college attended the SACSCOC World Tour to learn and ask questions about Northwest Vista College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) as well as the upcoming Oct. 6-8 visit of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Northwest Vista College President Dr. Ric Baser and NVC QEP Director Denise Tolan gave an overview of what faculty and staff can expect during the SACSCOC visit and answered questions on how faculty and staff can implement QEP in the classroom or in their work group.

SACSCOC is one of six regional accrediting bodies that evaluate schools and colleges on institutional effectiveness and compliance with federal regulations. Northwest Vista College's reaffirmation of accreditation is an assessment and a self-study of college-wide objectives and performance and it allows:

  • Access to federal financial aid, grants and other federal support
  • Ability to transfer credit to other colleges/universities
  • Demonstrates college effectiveness

[image 2]This is the first time in NVC's history that it’s completing its 10-year report.

It’s a process that includes:

  • Submitting documents to SACSCOC, which NVC has completed
  • Establishing or strengthening a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) – NVC is implementing it
  • Getting a visit from the SACS team – scheduled for NVC on Oct. 6-8, 2015

Those who did not get a chance to participate in one of the SACSCOC World Tour sessions will have other opportunities to learn and ask questions about the accreditation process as well as NVC’s QEP. Upcoming sessions will be announced on this website: http://wcmsstg.alamo.edu/nvc/qep/employee-news/
