Rising to the Challenge

Northwest Vista College President Dr. Ric Baser’s remarks from the All College Convocation on Aug. 21:

Good morning and welcome to NVC’s 2020 Fall All-College Convocation where we have the chance to kick-off a new 20-21 academic year and celebrate 25 years of Excellence!

I have been reflecting lately on all that you have accomplished this year, during one of the most difficult times we have ever faced together. I hope you will take a few minutes to reflect with me as I share my thoughts and feelings with you. I am so proud of all of you and us as an organization for how we have risen to the challenges we have faced this year and still provided everything possible to ensure the success of our students.

As we prepare for a fall unlike any other we have ever experienced, I want to express my confidence that you will continue to meet whatever challenges we face with the same dedication, determination, and positive attitude that you have demonstrated time and time again.

I can assure you that the Chancellor, the Board, and the entire Vista leadership team are here to support your efforts, and there is no doubt in my mind that we will see our students and each other successfully through this fallI also look forward to celebrating the time when we can all be together again (non-virtual) engaging and collaborating in the way we do so well on our beautiful NVC campus.

Collectively, with synergy and a sense of community spirit, NVC faculty and staff have an undeniable track record of resolving great challenges throughout our 25-year history. We have been the role model and the trendsetters, breaking the rules and setting up pilot programs for the district and our sister colleges. Before me, before Jackie, there was YOU.

As we begin our next 25 years, we get to redefine virtual learning in the 21st century! Milestones like this will define our next 25 years.

I am humbled and honored to serve as your president, and I want to thank you for allowing me to be part of this continued success story! Let’s do everything we can to help our students succeed!
