Since 1977, NVC President Dr. Ric Baser has been announcing sports games. And the basketball games on April 6 at Northwest Vista College was one of several games he participated in since he became president in 2014.
That night, he was the guest announcer of the women’s and men’s games against NVC’s friendly rival St. Philip’s College. His booming voice was heard throughout the night that brought out many first time faculty and staff to a basketball game since the pandemic. Attendees wore purple shirts to show their Wildcat Pride and the guest DJ was IT’s very own Lee White.
The NVC Dance team and NVC’s mascot were on hand to help motivate the teams and get the audience cheering. For the half-time show, students played musical bean bean bag chairs with a twist – while dribbling a basketball.
Between the women’s and men’s games, Coach Daniel Johnson presented Dr. Baser with a ball signed by both basketball teams to keep as a memento when he retires this summer.
The women’s team lost to SPC while the men’s team stomped SPC with 101 to 33.
