Northwest Vista College Public Information Officer, Melissa Monroe-Young, successfully completed the Examination for Public Relations (APR) on August 29, entitling her to use the APR professional designation.
The program is administered by the Universal Accreditation Board, a consortium of nine professional communication organizations that directs this competency certification program. The Accreditation program aims to improve the practice of public relations by assessing competence in 60 areas of knowledge, skills and abilities associated with the profession. By attaining this designation, she joins more than 4,300 Accredited PR practitioners in the U.S.
Among her many duties, Melissa is responsible for writing, editing and publishing the NVC employee publication, La reVista; oversees social media for the college and also works as an adjunct faculty member teaching an online Digital Media course.
