During the summer season, Northwest Vista College librarians helped the community through outreach in science education with its partner Southwest Research Institute.
SWRI invites San Antonio area high school seniors to participate in its YES program. The SWRI engineers and scientists’ mentor the students as they do research and select a project to perform during the upcoming school year.
SWRI invited the NVC librarians to help teach the students the research process. NVC librarians shared their wealth of expertise in navigating the expansive realm of scientific literature and resources.
For students, this collaboration proves invaluable on multiple fronts. First, it equips them with the skills necessary to conduct rigorous research—a cornerstone of academic and professional success. By learning to sift through scholarly databases and access specialized collections, students broaden their understanding of scientific methodologies and deepen their knowledge in their respective fields.
Moreover, the partnership cultivates a spirit of curiosity and inquiry among students. This exposure not only enriches their academic pursuits but also inspires them to consider future careers in science and technology.
The collaboration between Southwest Research Institute and NVC librarians strengthens our young scientists. Together, they are laying the groundwork for a future where knowledge knows no bounds and where curiosity fuels discovery.
