NVC Cares Campaign Bringing the Competitive Spirit

NVC Cares Campaign, the NVC part of the Alamo Colleges Employees Giving Back Campaign, so different?

Competition – among department teams, among the colleges and even among NVC buildings – has helped the NVC campaign reach a remarkable 38.6 percent participation rate – the highest percentage ever!

NVC’s Team 1 which includes President and College Support, Vice President for Academic Success and Support, Student Life, Student Leadership and Recreation was named Department Team of the Week for Aug. 28 – Sept. 1. Team members received NVC Cares cookies and an engraved trophy.

Pizza for Participation Leader in the week ending Sept. 7 was Team 4 with 59 percent participation. The team consists of the Student Success Contact Center, Academic Standards Team and Career and Transfer Services Center. They are receiving a pizza party and their own engraved trophy marking their achievement.

And on Thursday morning, NVC employees in Manzanillo Hall came together for a catered breakfast and another challenge. They want to be the first building to reach 100 percent participation in this year’s campaign. Right now, the participation percentage for Manzanillo Hall is 53 percent and that number is increasing.

The competitive spirit, however, doesn’t stop outside of NVC. The college presidents have their own competition: the presidents of the colleges who do not have the highest percentage of participation will have to wear the colors of the college achieving the highest participation for a day and have their photos made. Let’s ensure that the other college presidents will be wearing purple on that day!

And while it’s good to have a competitive spirit, just remember the money raised goes for a good cause. Kyanna Clark received a Dr. Jacqueline Claunch Legacy Scholarship to pursue her passion of music.

“Receiving a scholarship is amazing,” Kyanna said. “I worry a bit less about paying for school, focus on my studies and do my best to excel and get good grades on every class I take. It feels great when hard work is noticed and even more so when rewarded with a scholarship such as this. My family and I hope you know that your help is much appreciated and makes a difference for students such as myself.”

Here are the latest district-wide numbers:

  • Northwest Vista College – $37,369 at 38.8% participation
