Northwest Vista College’s Workforce academic programs have a new name in order to align with Alamo Colleges District’s (ACD) six institutes.
Now called, NVC Computer Science, Technology & Business, the name change reflects the recognition that Associate of Applied Science (AAS) programs are also academic programs. ACD’s six institutes are:
- Creative & Communication Arts
- Business & Entrepreneurship
- Health & Biosciences
- Advanced Manufacturing & Logistics
- Public Service
- Science & Technology
The Department Chair Dr. John Grillo said that in addition to providing entry-level employment, an AAS serves as a means to pursuit of higher education, and many of the fastest-growing jobs in the nation are in Computer Science, Technology & Business.
“With this name change, future and current students will view Associate of Applied Science programs not as ‘Workforce’ but as career pathways under an academic-wide institute model,” he added.
