Northwest Vista College is pleased to announce its inclusion in the city-wide exhibit, “Sebastián in San Antonio: 50+ Years / 20+ Sites /100+ Works”.
The exhibit features more than 100 works of the famed Mexican artist on display from Oct. 1 to May 2020, in more than 20 locations accessible to the public. The featured works span the artist’s more than 50-year career and includes his entire private collection.
Sebastián will be displaying his new piece, “Bola Cuantica,” a purple geometrical sculpture, on Sept. 26 at the Wiseman and 151 entrance of Northwest Vista College. Sebastián is also the creator of the nearly two decades-old “Torch of Friendship” which stands at the intersection of Alamo and Commerce Streets. The Torch is a symbol of the longstanding friendship and history between San Antonio and Mexico over the years.

Best known for his more than 200 monumental steel and concrete sculptures found around the world, Sebastián’s work has been shown in more than 190 solo exhibitions and in Mexico, England, the United States and numerous other locations. Much of his sculptural work has kinetic appeal, even if the parts do not move. His geometric concepts are also very important to his work, and is heavily influenced by Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso.
Sebastián found his love for art at an early age, earning himself numerous awards. According to the Mexico News Network. Sebastián is a true comtemporary international artist, one of Mexico’s pride and joy, as a living example of artistic expressions of Mexico.
The Department of Arts & Culture partnered with several organizations for this exhibit, including the Mexican Cultural Institute, the University of Texas at San Antonio, The McNay, Alamo Colleges District, Aeroméxico, San Antonio Public Library, Avenida Guadalupe Association, San Antonio International Airport, UT Health San Antonio, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM), UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures, Delta Airlines, Fundación Sebastian, Siempre Mexico, Hemisfair, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, and University Health System.
