New Alamo Colleges Instruction Designer at NVC

Northwest Vista College welcomes Dorian Williams as an instructional designer for Alamo Colleges Online.

Dorian comes to NVC after 24 years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as the USAF director of Aircrew Training and amassed 2,000 plus flight hours with 400 combat hours. Dorian is excited to serve the faculty by helping them create innovative and nextgen courseware.

He is an avid sports fan, with a heart for our community. In his free time, he leads a nonprofit organization focused on creating solutions to San Antonio’s well documented education and income inequities. Dorian is married to Erika, his junior high sweetheart, and together they have two children. Both of their children are collegiate All-American and All-Academic track and field athletes. Dorian has graduate degrees in Education and Aeronautical Science and a doctorate in Divinity.

He will provide personal consultations to faculty who wish to improve their hybrid and/or online course designs. His core instructional design belief is courseware framework should be designed with all learning styles in mind and should also create and develop critical thinking skills. Dorian enjoys the challenge of designing programs from a dual-perspective—looking through the eyes of both the learner and the instructor.

Alongside the one-on-one faculty consultations, he will also offer specialized group workshops. Consultations occur in person, in the faculty member’s office, or via Zoom web-conferencing technology. Group workshops are delivered face-to-face or also online using web-conferencing technology. Visit alamo.edu/acol/instructional-designers to schedule a meeting with an instructional designer.

Dorian is located in Manzanillo Hall, 204F, in the Teaching with Technology Department.
