On Thursday, September 17, 2015, 22 year-old Aaron Beaugard was involved in a motorcycle accident at Loop 1604 and Ellison Dr., just outside the entrance to NVC. The accident severed both of his legs at the knee and left him with other injuries, including a shattered left arm and a broken thumb along with severe road rash on both his arms. Alamo Colleges Police Officer #13 and Alamo Colleges Police Officer John Esquivel were on their way to the campus when they saw several cars scattered on the access road at Loop 1604 and Ellison Drive. She got out the car to see what was going on. Officer #13 saw that Aaron Beaugard's legs had been severed, and she quickly found the victim in the ditch. She immediately got her tourniquet out of her chest pocket to put it on one of his legs to stop the blood loss. Another San Antonio Police Officer helped to stop the blood loss on the other leg. She said Aaron's brother, who was also driving a motorcycle behind Aaron but was able to stop in time, was also there by Aaron's side. John helped by directing traffic and making sure witnesses didn't leave the scene. #13 said she did what she was trained to do even though she never thought she would see something like that in her life. She quick thinking and actions in the face of this emergency helped to save the young man's life. He is currently recovering, trying to stay positive as he awaits fitting and rehab with two prosthetic legs.
