Join NVC in the Cornyval Parade of Helotes

Northwest Vista College is seeking Brand Ambassadors or volunteers to help it participate in Helotes’ annual Corynval Parade on April 30. This is your chance to show your Wildcat Spirit and help represent the college.

The parade showcases local businesses, charities, and community organizations. This year’s theme is “Make Helotes ‘Amaizing'” (a play off of the word maize/corn). To keep in that theme, NVC’s theme is “Make NVC Amazing.”

According to the parade’s website, it says “In the early days of the area, (Native Americans) would come down from the Hill Country to plant corn in the fertile valleys of the Helotes area. Following the annual harvest, there was a time of great merriment and feasting before (they) returned to their homeland in the surrounding hills. (Native Americans) celebrated with a feast of spring corn after the tribal medicine man declared the corn ripe and ready to be eaten.”

The Cornyval Parade will start at Leslie Rd., travel along Bandera Rd. to Old Bandera Rd., and disband at Antonio Dr. in Old Town Helotes. It’s no cost to the public. It’s recommended parade watchers bring their own chairs, bug spray, suntan lotion, and umbrella.

If you would like to participate with NVC and show some Wildcat Spirit, contact Paul Vallejo in NVC’s Marketing & Strategic Communications area at pvallejo1@alamo.edu. The parade starts at 10 am but NVC volunteers should be there at 8 am.
