Engaging with Community and Students

It’s been a busy last few weeks for Northwest Vista College.

On the last day of April, several NVC staff participated in Helotes’ annual Cornyval Parade. The NVC contingency, led by NVC President Dr. Ric Baser, walked about two miles handing out candy and brochures. Two pick-up trucks were decorated in NVC purple and even though it rained early in the parade, NVC was the only participant with a DJ riding in the back – Lee White – spinning music to get participants hyped.

Then on May 4, members of the NVC Marketing & Strategic Communications (MSC) team, gathered up May the Fourth t-shirts and handed them out to students. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough to give to faculty and staff and there was only a limited supply for students. The shirts came from the May Fourth movie event the MSC team coordinated several years ago.

Coincidentally, a student went to class as a Storm Trooper with the hope of finding others like him on campus. After his class was over, he helped the MSC team hand out t-shirts and take pictures with excited students.

Also on May 6, NVC participated in the groundbreaking of a new Alamo Colleges Educational Center North of I-10. NVC will be the lead college when the building is complete, providing computer and cybersecurity classes. Read the story here.
