With the completion of our new Prickly Pear parking garage this fall, we gained much needed additional parking spaces on campus, but we gained something else too…solar power!
With the installation of 218 kilowatts of solar panels on the roof of the garage, we now have the ability to offset our overall electrical requirements.
Specifically, the power generated by the solar panels will be used to offset the electrical needs for lighting in the parking garage, as well as lighting, computers and other electrical requirements in Huisache Hall. The solar panel installation enables us to realize a piece of one of our sustainable goals: to decrease our carbon impact on the environment.
