Northwest Vista College’s hospitality is one of the many unique treasures of this community. I am humbled by the outpouring of support I have received from NVC students, faculty, and staff. These first two weeks as NVC President will be forever etched in my memory as our students and colleagues have shared their stories, swapped recipes with me, and gifted me with special NVC, San Antonio, and Texas mementos.
Faculty and staff have shared Texas-sized hugs and memories of NVC’s past and hopes for the future. They have also expressed questions and concerns regarding educational gaps, students’ needs, enrollment trends, and legislative actions.
This is an important and exciting time for Northwest Vista College as we embark on our new strategic plan, our Excelencia in Education journey, and NVC’s upcoming 30th anniversary in 2025.
My current priority is to get to know you and those we serve: students, prospective students, and the San Antonio community and surrounding areas. I intend to be visible on campus, at the district ACCESS office (Alamo Colleges Center for Excellence for Student Success) and with our current and future partners.
Over the last two weeks, I’ve had the pleasure to meet many of you at the Welcome Gathering session, Leadership Council, Staff Senate, Family Fun Day, Pizza with the President, Boerne P-Tech students, and many other small and large sessions.
I look forward to August and September when we will have more faculty and students on campus. I can’t wait to see you at NVC’s Faculty Development, Convocation, All College Meetings, Faculty Senate and Staff Senate meetings, and individual team-level gatherings. If there is a team that has not had a chance to schedule time with me, I welcome the invitation.
Thank you for making the time to meet with me and for your warm welcome to San Antonio. We are going to have a great academic year!
