Library Helping Students via Social Media

This summer Jonathan Cavazos completed his master’s degree in Library and Information Science from The University of North Texas. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas State University.

He has worked as a Library Assistant at Northwest Vista College for a little over a year and also works as a teaching assistant in English Language Learning at Nimitiz Middle School.

He has been accepted to present at the AMIGOS Library Conference this fall. His presentation is titled “Down the Rabbit Hole: Using Social Media to Promote Digital Resources in the time of COVID19.”

In his presentation, Jonathan will share how the digital media team at the Northwest Vista College Library was able to nimbly adjust to a remote environment by using a variety of technology applications to promote library resources on timely topics. Statistics demonstrate that usage of a library resource greatly increases after it is promoted through the library’s social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. In this way, the NVC Library is able to engage with the community and let people know that the Library is still there and ready to help.
