Thinking about Care, Achievement, and Distinction: Your role in carrying out our plan

One of the goals of the Strategic Planning Steering Team (SPST) of Northwest Vista College in the fall of 2017 was to take a fresh and systematic method to the development of the new strategic plan.

Using a strategic thinking framework, students, faculty, staff, and administrators approached the task with an eye to long term solutions and innovations.

What resulted was a document that felt holistic and true to NVC’s identity. At NVC, student success has always been the focus. The new strategic plan re-emphasizes that commitment, as well as the commitment to the surrounding communities and the city of San Antonio.

The strategic plan was approved by the NVC Cabinet in the summer of 2018, and revealed at the All College Convocation in the fall of 2018. The plan was distributed to all faculty and staff in commemorative journals at convocation and discussed during breakout sessions. The overall reception was positive as the SPST re-capped the year-long process and listened to first impressions. The general feeling throughout the college was that this was a different type of document, reflective of what NVC stands for today.

In the coming months, the SPST will work with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to identify the ways in which each group and each individual contribute to meeting the mission, learning vision, purpose, and strategic plan. Understanding how every department, discipline, and individuals work together will help everyone to see the common “big picture.” The SPST and the Cabinet hope that every member of the NVC community will find themselves reflected within the strategic plan. This is an exciting time to be a Vista Wildcat!
