[image 1]Northwest Vista College has an interesting lineup of speakers who will be visiting the campus to share their insight and knowledge from suicide, dance, spoken word, violence against women and much more.
Here’s a lineup of a few of the speakers set to come:
Feb. 25 – Sister Martha Ann Kirk, Th.D. – Iraqi Women of Three Generations: Challenges, Education and Hopes for Peace. She will be speaking at 11 a.m. in the Lago Vista Room of the Cypress Campus Center. For more information, contact Humanities’ Carlos Lopez.
[image 2]Feb. 28 – Jim May, artistic director of the Sokolow Theater Dance Ensemble – He is currently at NVC providing workshops to students on dance composition, movement and technique. His residency will conclude with a performance of Anna Sokolow’s “Lyric Suite” on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 4:30 p.m. at the Palmetto Theater. For more information, contact Jayne King.
Feb. 28 – Roderick Borisade aka Odd?Rod is an author, poet and singer – He will share with students his trials and tribulations of being raised in poverty and to a drug-addicted mother to eventually receiving a bachelor’s degree. He will talk with students from 11 a.m. to noon in the Lago Vista Room of the Cypress Campus Center. For information, contact Kelly Blanco of Student Leadership and Activities.
[image 3]March 7 – Jimmie Briggs, co-founder of the “Man-Up campaign: Stop Violence Against Women” – He will be speaking at 12:30 p.m. in the Lago Vista room of the Cypress Campus Center. For more information, contact Humanities’ Carlos Lopez.
March 19 – Betty Ramirez Swinners is a motivational speaker and survivor of abuse – For location and time, contact Roopa Prasad.
March 25 – Kevin Hines is a speaker who deals with bi-polar disorders – He is one of 33 Golden Gate bridge jump survivors and is spreading the message of living mentally well and the prevention of suicide. He will be speaking at 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the Palmetto Theater. The contact is Adriana Cantu of the Student Wellness Center.
April 15 – Ambassador Sichan Siv is an international best-selling author of “Golden Bones” – He escaped Cambodia’s killing fields in 1976 and will speak from 11 a.m. to noon in the Lago Vista room of the Cypress Campus Center.
