NVC Participates in Citywide STEM Event

This past weekend on Saturday, Nov. 4, Northwest Vista College hosted The CORE4 STEM Family Day – an event held simultaneously at six college campuses throughout San Antonio.

The eighth annual event is in collaboration with the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. This was the first year NVC participated in the event that also included Palo Alto, San Antonio College, St. Philip’s, Our Lady of the Lake University and UTSA.

According to the Hispanic Chamber, CORE4’s mission is to “stimulate students’ interests in the sciences and lead them to discoveries about their own potential in these areas and provides immersion in the excitement, surprise, and fun inherent in the sciences.”

The Family Day event at NVC featured workforce and science workshops for middle school students and their families.

“It was a great hands-on event for the community to instill interest and appreciation for science, technology, engineering and math in middle school students and their families,” said Renata Serafin, attendee of the event and NVC Director of Public Relations.

“My children had a great time doing experiments in the chemistry lab, filtering water in the water resource science lab and throwing a five-foot dart in the anthropology outdoor excursion session.”
