NVC No Longer a Secret

In our not so distant past, I have heard people say that Northwest Vista College was one of the best kept secrets in town. To some degree, that may have been true, but it is no longer the case.

Our strategic efforts over the last four years have resulted in remarkable outcomes for our students. These outcomes are pushing NVC onto the national spotlight and helping to enhance the image of community colleges in general. Most importantly, these state and national accolades keep validating NVC efforts toward student success.

Although we know that NVC is one of the best community colleges in the state and the nation, we still face misconceptions that the public holds about community colleges in general. To change this public perception about the quality of education that community colleges provide will take all of us.

I invite each of you to become a champion for community colleges and specifically for NVC. Our summer enrollment could use a boost from your elevator speech. So next time you’re talking to your friends and neighbors or you’re in a grocery store, please help me spread the good news about NVC. I thank you for this in advance and for everything you do to make NVC such a remarkable college.

Here is a list of some of NVC’s most recent accolades:

National Recognitions

  • In May, NVC will receive the 2018 “Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges” (PPWCC) award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Only 18 colleges were selected for this award from over 300 qualifying colleges in the United States. NVC is the only college in San Antonio and within the Alamo College District to receive this award this year, and one of five from Texas.
