Welcome New Employees – Randall and Alyssandra

Randall Garza

Randall Garza, Ph.D., has joined Northwest Vista College as an associate director in Student Success.

He earned a BA in Journalism and an MS in Sociology from the University of Texas Pan American (Now UTRGV) and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Our Lady of the Lake University.

In his 12 years working in higher education, he has had the opportunity to work in Student Life at South Texas College, where he developed the college’s Student Leadership Academy and Student Government Association. He then lead the Advising and Retention office at Our Lady of the Lake University. Now, he gets to assist students at the No. 1 community college in Texas.

His published leadership works have concentrated on the leader-follower relationship of college coaches and student athletes. He has also presented to the National Honor Society at Robert G. Cole High School, presented on Workplace Diversity at Tesoro Industries, presented on public speaking to student leaders at Texas A&M San Antonio and has guest lectured on leadership at UTSA .

Randall added he hopes to make an impact in being a voice for students, assist with leadership programming, retention, graduation and policy initiatives. You can find him at the Cypress Campus Center 204E or call him at 486-4407.


Alessandra Lopez

NVC Public Relations welcomes Alyssandra Lopez to its Public Relations team as she begins her role as the public relations intern.

Alyssandra has earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Film Studies and Production with a Minor in Creative Writing from Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Alyssandra is no stranger to NVC. Prior to joining the PR team, she worked as the NVC Kids Camp liaison and the English and Reading tutor. Alyssandra has great team leadership experience working for the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas as well as customer service experience working for Lolli and Pops Inc., SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment in San Antonio and Disney Parks at Walt Disney World.

Alyssandra has already served as a volunteer for HalloVISTA and May the 4th so she will be right at home helping the PR team this year! You can reach her at alopez317@alamo.edu
