New Honor Society for Veteran Students

Northwest Vista College inducted 16 new student veterans into the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society on their accomplishment of meeting the membership requirements for the organization.

SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society is the only national honor society that recognizes and honors the service and the scholastic achievements of veteran students. Requirements for membership include serving or currently serving in the military, national guard, or reserves; having a minimum GPA of a 3.0; being currently enrolled at NVC; and completing a minimum of 12 credited hours of college-level courses at Alamo Colleges (developmental course do not apply).

Some of the member benefits include receiving a SALUTE certificate, a challenge coin, resume development, eligibility for SALUTE scholarships, authorization to wear the distinguishable cords and stole at graduation, letters of recommendation, federal hiring preference with honors amerit & more.

SALUTE is the first national academic honor society established for student veterans, and active military, in two-year and four-year institutions of higher education. Another unique element of the honor society includes a four-tier system, which is designed to encourage undergraduate student veterans to strive to improve their GPAs and advance to higher tier levels (and scholarship brackets) in the honor society during their academic careers.
