Celebrate Veterans Day with Music and Jason Paxton Memorial Scholarship Dedication

Join the NVC Instrumental Chamber Ensemble on Monday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Palmetto Theatre for A Musical Menagerie.

The evening of diverse music ranges from works by Maurice Ravel to Vince Guaraldi and seasonal selections to Romantic favorites. Selections will be performed by the student Instrumental Chamber Ensemble, string quartet, as well as a trio of trombone, clarinet, and horn under the direction of Dr. Andrew Converse.

In the second part of the performance and in honor of Veterans Day, the Northwest Vista College Music Department presents the music of guitarist and composer Jason Paxton, a veteran of the United States Army who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. After suffering a traumatic brain injury in combat, Paxton’s road to recovery included enrolling as a music student at Northwest Vista College in 2016. He studied guitar and composition, and wrote several compositions during his studies. Following his death in spring 2018, a scholarship in his memory was established to benefit Northwest Vista College music students.

The scholarship dedication to remember Jason Paxton and his guitar compositions will feature performances by guitarist Ashley Lucero and pianist Dr. Aaron Prado.
