A Very Special Person

About Tamotia Franks, Student Success

“Dear Chancellor, President, VP of Student Success, Director of Advising, and Director of Enrollment Services,

I am writing this commendation in regard to the assistance I received 3 times from Tamotia Franks, from the Career & Transfer Services. I am over 55 and a new student at NVC. The first time I went to CAT’s was August 2013 after Fall enrollment. I needed assistance in regard to finding a copy of my fall class schedule. I was having difficulty navigating Canvas, so I reached out and asked Tamotia for assistance. She was very patient, knowledgeable and courteous. With her guidance I was able to find my user name, set up a password and navigate Canvas.

The second time I went to CAT’s was November 12, 2013, to sign up for 2014 spring classes. I tried several times to sign up for 2014 spring class and was so confused I was about to give up. I noticed Tamotia was at her desk, so again I reached out to her for some assistance. With no hesitation she came and sat with me, looked over my degree plan and courses. She printed a copy for me and proceeded to explain my options. We tried many scenarios, she sat with me patiently explained my options several times as I was getting confused. But she stuck it out with me and did not once make me feel as if I was an inconvenience to her. She even explained the effect on my Financial Aid against the number of hours I signed up for. Both these experience were very positive and encouraging.

The third time I returned was because I needed to sign up for two more classes but because most courses I needed required a math prerequisite I was not able to sign up for them. She saw my frustration and came up to me and asked if I was able to find all the courses I needed. I began to choke because I felt so inadequate and so overwhelmed. She again stood by me and helped me find a math flex class that would accommodate my needs for the full semester.

Although there were always other students there to help she was the one who was really paying attention to students who walked in. It takes a very special person to keep her composure and stay focused. She is truly a treasure; she is friendly, courteous, non-judgmental, knowledgeable and patient. She has excellent people skills and I really appreciate the time she took to assist and educate me during my first semester at NVC.

What I am saying is that Tamotia Franks not only helped me once, or twice but three times. Because of her I decided to return to school next semester (spring 2014). What she has is a gift to really help people and make a difference. She is an exemplary employee. Being intuitive enough to read people’s nonverbal communication and body language is a rare quality. My only regret is that I have been so caught up with school that I put this off far too long. Please let her know how much I really appreciate her help and I wish her success, blessings and happiness for the rest of her life.  HAPPY HOLIDAY’S!”

Sincerely,
Maria Avila
