Virtual Psychology Day Coming Oct. 26

What do I know about sexual behavior?

Where can I learn more information about mental disorders?

How do my senses work?

Why do people do the things they do?

Psychology offers potential answers to all of these questions and more. Psychology, the scientific study of behaviors and mental processes, studies a wide range of behaviors, offering interesting scientific information for people of any age.

The psychology faculty at Northwest Vista College offers Psychology Day annually. Don Lucas, the psychology discipline coordinator and original psychology faculty member at NVC, likens Psychology Day to the day “we give psychology away for free.”

This year marks the 15th Annual Psychology Day. On this day, psychology faculty and students prepare activities and presentations on different topics to help demonstrate the breadth of the science. Everyone is invited, not only students! Past topics of booths include sexual knowledge, science-based study skills, memory, sensation and perception, understanding the symptoms of mental disorders, how we perceive others, and personality assessment.

This year’s Psychology Day will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 9:30 to 2 p.m. It will be online, meaning that students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome to visit “virtual booths” with links to content housed on one web page. Some links will lead to live Zoom demonstrations of concepts and activities while others will lead to pre-recorded information from faculty and students in the psychology area.

Mark your calendars for this year’s Psychology Day and plan to attend! Visit our Facebook Event page at https://fb.me/e/1NuEAfboh for more information as the event comes closer. The actual event can be found at https://www.alamo.edu/nvc/psychologyday
