Giving Campaign Heating Up: Dr. Baser May Have to Wear NLC Green

The competition is heating up! Northwest College has to put the pedal to the metal because it’s NO LONGER in the lead to win the district-wide giving campaign.

Instead of NVC President Dr. Baser wearing our beloved purple, he may have to wear NLC green. Here are the latest participation numbers:

  • NVC – 45% participation – $45,497 raised
  • NLC – 60% – $16,077
  • SPC – 32% – $32,534
  • SAC – 31% – $30,172
  • PAC – 22% – $10,551

With that said, congratulations are in order for NVC’s Team 8, Workforce Education and Training, for capturing the title of 2017 NVC Cares Campaign Department Team of the Week Contest for the week of Sept. 25 – 29.

Team 8 with campaign participation of 47% receives NVC Cares cookies and an engraved NVC Cares Campaign trophy recognizing them as the Department Team of the Week.

Close behind this participation achievement in second place are Team 13 (Social Sciences) with 44% participation and Team 2 (College Services, Community Engagement and Quality Enhancement Plan) in third place with 39% participation.

Earlier Department Team Winners

Because teams cannot win this coveted title more than once during the campaign, NVC has four Department Teams with outstanding campaign participation, however, they were not eligible for this week’s win because they took the title earlier in the campaign.

Congratulations to:

  • Team 12 (Math and Engineering, Title V and Dean of Arts and Sciences and Academic Support) for reaching a whopping 866% participation,
  • Team 4 (Student Success Contact Center, Academic Standards Team and Career and Transfer Services) for increasing to 77%,
  • Team 1 (President and College Support; Vice President for Academic Success plus 2; Student Life; Student Leadership; and Recreation) for climbing to 74%; and
  • Team 7 (Student Success Assessment and Testing; Recruitment; Welcome Center; Enrollment Services; and Student Development) for achieving 48% participation.

Leopard-print suit?

Remember, if you want to see Dr. Baser in the full leopard-print suit on Employee Development Day, NVC needs to reach 50% participation in the campaign. His challenge to employees was if the college surpassed 45%, he would wear both the leopard print jacket and the leopard-print tie.

You can help make it happen!

Thank you for your support of NVC students, Alamo Colleges students and our community. Kaylee Gillaspie and Megan Vergara are two of the first recipients of the Beverly Evans Memorial Student Life Scholarship.

Kaylee explains the impact of a scholarship on her career goal.

“Receiving a scholarship is a major stress reliever. I am able to focus more on school and be able to work a little less. I have been working on planning how much I will need to fund the rest of my education and to earn the needed amount, I am going to have to work very hard. But I will do what I need to do to achieve my goal of becoming a pediatric nurse. A scholarship puts me one step closer to achieving my goals.”
