Several Northwest Vista College faculty and staff are participating in a new citywide online training hosted by The San Antonio Compassionate Institute to help give educators new skills to process challenging new life lessons while leveraging and navigating to a new, better normal.
According to the Compassionate Institute, “Our world has changed. Pandemic disruption has exposed fault lines in our schools, systems and society. We are witnessing the breathtaking capacity of our teachers: Innovation – Adaptation – Care with Compassion.”
Migdalia Garcia, of NVC Community Engagement, said The Center for Compassion, Training and Secular Ethics based in Atlanta, is facilitating the course.
“I have been through the training and found it be practical to support and reinforce the foundation of our work in peace, formation and will be foundational to our anti-racist initiatives and actions,” she added.
Migdalia said that Debi Gaitan, Russ Frohardt, Julie Moore-Felux, Janie Scott, Diana Bradford, Lisa McGoldrick, Jon Rosenberg, Dain Wood, and Kim Linsenbardt from NVC are participating with over 170 local educators ranging from kindergarten to adult education. The course runs through July 16.
