“It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful” – David Steindl-Rast
NVC is exceeding our spring 2023 enrollment in comparison to the same day of registration last year. A few might think it is far too soon to celebrate, however, most would agree that it is a great time to be grateful and joyful since our enrollment is currently up to over 500 students. It would be a huge victory for us to maintain this increase in enrollment and even exceed it by the time we reach our spring 16-week census date.
I am grateful for each of you, the contributors and champions of this early win in our long registration season. Take a moment to thank one another and share in the spirit of gratitude and collaboration in helping our community find its way, in larger numbers, back to NVC. It is not an easy feat yet your collaborations are getting it done.
One such collaboration, as highlighted in La reVista, was the spring 2023 registration lab held on Nov. 14. It set a new record with 551 students in attendance, up 43.8% from the previous high in fall 2018. The registration event was led by Student Success, and was a college-wide effort with participation from faculty and staff from Academics, Student Success, College Services, and the President’s Office.
Another collaboration that represents the spirit of our college was the Food for the Holidays event held on Nov. 17, which provided food and support to 90 families. The event was led by the Student Advocacy and Resource Center and 30+ volunteers in addition to our facilities and Alamo Police department who served as greeters and provided a helping hand throughout the event. A special shout out to Laura Alvarez, Joey Dinscore, and Isabel Lopez and their teams for providing unconditional love and support to all involved.
The Cafecito that was held on Nov. 10 is another example of gratitude leading to joyfulness. It was a great gathering filled with compassionate discussions about our college, team members, and ways that everyone pulls together to support and guide students. It was fun sharing stories, laughing, and just being…together!
I wish you a safe, restful, and joyful thanksgiving season, and thank you for all you do for our college, students, and one another.
