NVC Vice President Nominated to Harlandale Hall of Fame

Debi Gaitan, vice president for Student Success at Northwest Vista College, was recently selected for induction into the 2020 Harlandale Hall of Fame.

All the new Hall of Fame inductees, alongside past Hall of Famers, will be recognized during the annual Frontier Bowl at the Alamodome on Dec. 4, which is played between the Harlandale Indians and McCollum Cowboys. A video presentation will be shown on the Alamodome’s Jumbotron.

Harlandale Independent School District began honoring its distinguished alumni and community supporters in 1985 and has since inducted more than 150 people into its Hall of Fame.

Joseph Vara, a student success advisor in NVC’s Assessment and Testing Center, nominated Debi and ensured all of the steps in the process were completed. He said Debi is a great leader for Student Success and proudly represents the college in San Antonio.

“She not only shows hard work, but provides successful mentorship, for the next great generation of leaders,” Joseph added.

Debi thanked Joseph for his encouragement and support.

“He always reminds me of my deep roots in the Southside of San Antonio and my compass that points to Harlandale. We reminisce about places, people and restaurants that were a part of our childhood and continue to be foundations in our lives today,” Debi added. “It was heartwarming when I learned that he was pursuing the Hall of Fame nomination on my behalf. I am grateful to be surrounded by individuals, like Joseph, who understand the importance of our San Antonio communities and centrical role they are in our daily work.”
