NVC Students Have Opportunity for Free Childcare

In an innovative new project, Northwest Vista College will launch free childcare for kids ages 5-13 in the evenings and weekends this fall semester.

For many students who are also parents, paying for both college and childcare is tough. It’s not uncommon to forgo a higher education and instead work and pay for childcare.

NVC is trying to break down the tough choices and barriers that keep students from attending college. Students don’t have to be at a particular income level to sign up for childcare.

Kids will get free meals and free tutoring while also learning in their classes. This opportunity is possible through a partnership with the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, where they will provide care on the NVC campus.

It’s estimated that about 30,000 students, are also parents, at the Alamo Colleges. NVC leaders hope that removing some of life’s challenges will help students focus on the classroom and improve retention.

Space is limited, and students are encouraged to register early to secure a spot for themselves or their children.
