I am pleased to share with you the exciting news that Northwest Vista College has renewed our affiliation with Excelencia in Education, reinforcing our dedication to serving Hispanic students. As part of this commitment, I will continue to be an active member of the Presidents for Latino Student Success network, joining 189 college presidents from across 28 states and Puerto Rico. With over 1,000 colleges committed to the Excelencia’s mission, we stand united in our efforts to increase Latino college completion, and support all students.
Excelencia in Education established the Seal of Excelencia for colleges and universities that strive to go beyond enrollment to serve Latino students. This national certification represents a rigorous institutional self-assessment model aimed at aligning our efforts to intentionally serve Latino students, as well as all students, across data, practice, and leadership. With over 20 years of research and collaboration with colleges and universities nationwide, Excelencia sets a high standard for student success, and Northwest Vista College is dedicated to meeting and exceeding this benchmark.
Our newly established 2024-2026 Strategic Plan underscores our commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and validation for both students and employees, while also prioritizing mobility for student success. By aligning with the Alamo Colleges District’s ambitious goal of eliminating intergenerational poverty in San Antonio and surrounding areas, we affirm our significant role in supporting the diverse communities within our region and meeting the workforce needs of tomorrow.
At Northwest Vista College, we understand that our students enroll with the expectation of receiving an affordable, quality education that will propel them towards sustainable and thriving careers, benefitting both themselves and their families.
To further enhance our commitment to excellence, we recently visited Austin Community College, a recipient of the Seal of Excelencia, which serves as a mentor in our journey towards achieving this prestigious recognition. This Vista team will share what they learned at college gatherings and in future issues of La reVista. When the time is right, Northwest Vista College will apply for the Seal of Excelencia, pushing ourselves to continuously improve our work and better serve our students and community.
Receiving the Seal of Excelencia will not mark the end of our journey; rather, it will signify a new chapter in which we will have the privilege to mentor emerging Hispanic-Serving Institutions, further strengthening our collective impact.
I extend my deepest gratitude to each faculty and staff member for your unwavering dedication to redefining student success and for your role in making Northwest Vista College a Hispanic-Thriving Institution. Together, we will continue to uplift and empower every student who walks through our doors.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment and support.
