12:30 p.m. – 2pm in DWWC 214/216: Guest speaker, Sarah Powell, will discuss behavior therapy & the field of behavioral analysis. The recipients of the Psychology Department Scholarships will also be announced at this time.
Sarah Powell
Sara Powell is a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) and clinical director for Little Spurs Autism Centers. She has previously served as Regional Clinical Director and a Telehealth Supervisor, providing her over 10 years of rich experience working with clients in diverse settings such as schools, clinics, communities, homes, and remote work. Mrs. Powell also designs comprehensive training for BCBAs and RBTs, emphasizing merging clinical techniques with soft skills.
Learning Objectives to be covered include how to:
Understand the fundamental principles and concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
Describe the role and responsibilities of a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
Identify the requirements for becoming a BCBA, including education, supervised experience, and passing the certification exam.
Understand the ethical principles and guidelines that underpin the practice of ABA and explain the importance of utilizing soft skills.
Describe the diverse applications of ABA in various fields and gain tips for gaining more information on these fields.
