NVC President To Lead 2017 Alamo Colleges Giving Campaign

Dr. Ric Baser is serving as this year’s chair of the Alamo Colleges Employees Giving Back Campaign coordinated by the Alamo Colleges Foundation. The campaign begins Aug. 21 and runs through Oct. 16.

This year’s campaign will utilize a new upgraded online giving portal that employees can access by computer and mobile phones. Donors can support Northwest Vista College scholarships for students and programs, Alamo Colleges scholarships and programs, community agencies of the United Way and arts and cultural organizations through TheFund.

“We emphasize that the amount you give is not the most important part. What matters is that you participate. Overall, we’re striving to achieve a 45% participation rate this year,” Dr. Baser says.

And, at NVC, employees will have an array of opportunities to participate. Members of the NVC Campaign Leadership Team with assistance from Foundation representatives will be promoting the campaign at Faculty Development Day on Aug. 19, NVC Convocation on Aug. 25, departmental meetings and a special Pizza for Participation initiative on Sept. 6.

On Sept. 6, NVC will have “giving stations” staffed with campaign volunteers and iPads to assist those who would like to make online gifts or pledges in Mountain Laurel, Juniper, Live Oak and the Palmetto Center for the Arts between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Sept. 7, the department with the highest percentage of campaign participation will be awarded a pizza party.

Additionally, the Beverly Evans Memorial NVC Student Life Scholarship will be included on this year’s list of funds. Your gift to this scholarship fund will benefit NVC students who volunteer with community organizations or are involved in student organizations or activities.

Your gifts and pledges to the campaign truly make a difference to those who benefit from your generosity. Because of contributions from NVC and other Alamo Colleges donors, the Dr. Jacqueline Claunch Legacy Scholarship is now fully endowed and two NVC students received the first scholarships from this endowed fund. Kyanna Clark, one of those students, describes the impact of receiving the scholarship and what it means to her and her family.

“My sisters and I are the only ones in our family who have pursued higher education. Our parents, aunts, uncles and even grandparents didn’t. So going to college makes me feel like I’m doing something good for myself. I focus on my studies and do my best to excel and get good grades on every class I take. It feels great when hard work is noticed and even more so when rewarded with a scholarship such as this. My family and I hope you know that your help is much appreciated and makes a difference for students such as myself.”

If you would like to help students such as Kyanna, we hope you will consider participating in this year’s NVC Cares. . . I Care Campaign, the NVC part of the Alamo Colleges Employees Giving Back Campaign.
