International Education Week is a national observance that highlights the importance, timeliness, and need for Global Education in curricular and co-curricular offerings.
The District’s International Education office collaborated with each of the five colleges to create a robust calendar of high quality programing ranging from virtual museum tours to faculty development.
NVC hosted two International Education week sessions and a student photo competition.
The first event was a panel discussion on Global Career Competencies from the NVC Business Council Christiana Yebra, entrepreneur and CEO of Vouch and @ Currently Events, and Kenny Vallespin, who is an entrepreneur and vice president of The Bank of San Antonio. Both encouraged adaptability, innovation, passion, and belief in self as the bedrock to procuring employment and internship opportunities locally and globally. Each panelist fielded a host of questions from students, which underscored the importance of career readiness and experiential activities as springboards for future successes.
To round out the week, Padraig O’Tauma, Irish poet and theologian joined a virtual community of NVC staff, faculty, and students for a powerful poetry reading. Local spoken word artists and numerous members from Compassionate SA also gathered to hear Mr. O’Tauma discuss identity, storytelling, and the complexities of peace –via his prose. In addition to writing, Padraig is the host of On Being’s Poetry Unbound, an invitation to immerse oneself in the poetry of life. Peace and Conflict studies co-sponsored the event.
Thanks to all who participated in logistics, sponsorship, and attendance to make the week a huge success.
