NVC Kicks Off Summer AlamoBRIDGE Program

A select group of high school graduates this summer are getting a unique opportunity to participate in Alamo Colleges new AlamoBRIDGE program, which gives them a jump start on their college career.

Northwest Vista College kicked off this pilot program with 20 students on June 24. The program is for students who placed below college-level math on their TSI placement exam. During the eight-week program, students have the opportunity to take a math course and Learning Frameworks (EDUC 1300) course to advance their placement in math for the fall semester.

“College research has shown that math can be a major roadblock in student success. If we can give students a jump start in this area, maybe we can give them the confidence to go further in their college careers,” said Debi Gaitan, vice president for NVC’s Student Success.

Along with getting their tuition and books covered, participants also engage in informative ‘Lunch & Learn’ sessions that provide career exploration and college readiness guidance. Successful completers of the program will be awarded a $500 scholarship that will apply to their fall 2019 tuition. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, until Aug. 18.
