During the Spring Convocation in January, we announced the investment of $1 million in new full-time faculty positions. This expansion in our faculty allows Northwest Vista College to hire 12 new full-time faculty for fall 2024, with six each in core classes and an additional six in workforce programs.
We used a data-informed process to help us evaluate the schedule, areas where we’ve had several visiting lecturers, and our growth plans in addition to feedback from coordinators and chairs to identify the areas of greatest need. The $1 million investment will allow us to hire faculty in the following disciplines:
Computer Science (two positions)
Cloud Computing/Cisco
Business
Digital Video and Cinema Production
3D Animation/Game Development
Pharmacy Technology
Biology
English (three positions)
Mathematics
These 12 positions are in addition to the 15 positions that are currently being filled due to retirements, resignations, and additions in the 2023-2024 academic year. The total number of faculty that we are hiring for fall 2024 is 27.
Our 2024-26 strategic plan identifies social and economic mobility as critical to our students’ success and the investment in new faculty aligns with our efforts to build an academic program portfolio that leads to post-graduation success.
Faculty Fellows
Vista is pursuing several initiatives, and we need faculty to lead these conversations. Together we will create a Faculty Fellows program, and I look forward to ideas on how we can structure the work.
