NVC Goes Outdoors to Meet with Students

For the first time in little over a year, NVC Vista Central: Welcome and Admissions Center engaged with students face-to-face at Stevens High School.

Following all safety protocols, Vista Central Enrollment coaches held a “farmers market” style recruitment event outside on April 7 to help students with their admissions and enrollment process.

Valerie Acosta Vasquez, a certified enrollment coach in Vista Central, said Stevens High School approached her and she was more than willing to meet with students. She then went on a scavenger hunt to find tablecloths, pennants and other NVC promotional items to bring the Wildcat spirit to Stevens. She and Elizabeth Murray, another certified enrollment coach in Vista Central, met with about 25 students.

“It’s been over a year since I have interacted with students face to face. It’s nice to see them in person and reassure them we are still here to help,” said Valerie, adding she knows many students need that human interaction to help them get through the enrollment process.

Since COVID-19, NVC has provided all services remotely to students. Valerie said the goal of the outdoor event was to help students who have already applied to get through their next steps, which often stops them from registering for classes. Valerie added she’s hoping other NISD high schools will want to hold similar outdoor recruitment events.
