Congratulations to three Northwest Vista College employees for recently graduating from the Alamo Colleges Leadership Academy for Success, also known as ALAS.
The NVC employees are:
- Laura Quintanilla, academic program specialist – NVC Academic Support Services
- Rita Perez, coordinator of occupational programs – Computer Sciences & Technology
- Steven Rocha, NVC Enrollment coach coordinator
ALAS is a leadership program designed to develop participants in the area of personal and professional growth. Participants learn a process-oriented approach to acquire new mindsets, skillsets and tools, which will help move the Alamo Colleges District to a culture of organizational excellence and effectiveness.
Laura said, “We started the program on Oct. 28, 2019 and spent four days together that week. After that we met one Friday a month. Our last session was on Feb. 14 and then COVID happened. We had our graduation virtually through Zoom on June 23.
She added about 110 people applied from across the district and approximately 45 were chosen. “We were the lucky 13th cohort.”
She said unfortunately, Dr. Charles Hinkley, NVC dean of Academic Success, couldn’t complete the last half of the program due to health issues, but his ALAS colleagues have been sending well wishes for a speedy recovery.
“It was a great opportunity to meet employees from across all of the colleges and various departments,” Laura added. “It was very interactive and most of our learnings came from each other and our experiences, both the good and the bad. A lot of our conversation revolved around how to create vision, unite teams, and hold ourselves, our supervisors, and the teams we lead accountable and how utilization of all these skills can lead to us becoming trusted and effective leaders.”
