This year’s NVC employee convocation was just one hour long!
Northwest Vista College President Dr. Ric Baser even injected some Olympics success in it. He said right after USA swimmer Michael Phelps won the 200-meter butterfly event, there was a graphic (meme) that went viral of Phelps’ competitor looking at him rather than the finish line.
Dr. Baser said just like Phelps, NVC should continue to focus on winning. The meme said: “Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on the winners.”
Dr. Baser added here are some reasons why NVC is a winner:
- Over 17,000 students registered for the fall
- Over 3,600 dual credit students enrolled
- NVC exceeded degree/certificate targets (WIG) three years in a row.
- Grown degrees/certificates by 74 percent from 2013-15
- NVC should exceed 3,000 degrees for 2016 – 110 percent increase over three years
- NVC on Top 100 Minority Degree Producer List
- NVC Earns “2016 Best Colleges in Texas” ranking for second year in a row by BestColleges.com
Before the convocation was over, Vice President of Academics Dr. Amy Whitworth and the new Dean of Arts & Sciences Russ Frohardt congratulated the Excellence of of Teaching winners. They are:
- Sarah Ball, History
- George Gittinger, Philosophy
- Dave Rohrbach, Biology
- Liz Wright, Psychology
Additionally, here’s the state of the college Power Point presentation and the Prezi presentation that went along with it.
