Representatives of the Northwest Vista College Business Council and Friends of the Arts at NVC (FANs) as well as NVC faculty and staff participated in the consolidated scholarship application judging event held April 5 at the Nursing & Allied Health Complex at San Antonio College.
The number of student applications for scholarships received by the March 31 Alamo Colleges Foundation application deadline was 2,666, according to Anna Rangel, scholarship coordinator for the Foundation.
NVC faculty and staff members serving as judges included Minkyung Lee and Jimena Marin.
Carmen Botello and Michele Lopez, recruiting specialists, Nationwide; Januarie Loyd, AVP and senior auditor, and Marci Demino, senior vice president and director of internal audit, Jefferson Bank; Joe Perez, vice president, talent and culture, BBVA Compass; Christine Crowley, executive director, Boerne Community Theatre; Patrick Quilty, former NVC Bookstore manager, Follett; Jennifer Wolff, NVC Bookstore manager, Follett; Mario Carvajal, PAC Bookstore manager, Follett; Larry A. Hobbs, Human Resources consultant; James L. Watkins, Jr., alumnus, Harvard University; and Janie Lopez, consultant, represented NVC as community members on the judging panel.
Manny Martinez, NVC alumni coordinator; and Alice Martinez, facility rental and community development specialist, helped facilitate the judging event.
Scholarship awards range from $200 to $3,000 per academic year with an average award amount of approximately $750, and are applied to the recipient’s student account for tuition, fees, books and other educational costs.
To date, NVC has awarded more than $301,000 in scholarships for the 2018-2019 academic year.
