NVC Community Health Participate in City Parade

Alumni and current students from Northwest Vista College’s Community Health Worker program recently participated in the Diez y Seis de Septiembre Parade and Celebration honoring Mexico’s independence at the Avenida Guadalupe Association on Sept. 16.

Faculty member Guadalupe Cornejo  said participating in the parade was very significant and empowering. She added the goal was to have a presence in the community and to provide students the opportunity to appreciate the history and culture of the West Side community.

Guadalupe said the students got to foster their cultural competency skills and make a connection with the people they will serve and collaborate with as Community Health Workers/Promotores.

A student sent Guadalupe this message: “Ms. Cornejo, Thank You. I had a good time. I am happy I was able to walk for a good cause. We can only be a community when there is unity.”
