NVC Library
Thanks to the Northwest Vista College Library team, we are bridging the college’s past with the present through a new digital archive.
The Library personnel have been wanting to start an NVC archive for some time now. Both Palo Alto and St. Philip’s Colleges have archives. NVC has an interesting and unique history which we believe should be preserved for future students, employees, and visitors to see. We would especially like to have an attractive and informative archive developed in time for NVC’s 30th anniversary.
The two library employees who began work on the NVC Archive are librarian Nancy Kaida and Library Assistant Catarina (Cat) Garza, who has worked in the NVC Library since 2018. Cat was especially interested in the Archive because of her academic studies and practical experience. She will graduate with a Masters in history from UTSA in December. In addition, as an undergraduate Cat got some archive experience as an intern in the Archives and Special Collections of Texas A & M University-San Antonio.
Cat and Nancy began working on the Archive a few weeks ago. Cat created a LibGuide (a web-based research guide) to house and organize the materials. She started out with some documents and photographs that the Library already had. Recently Nancy and Cat contacted our Marketing and Strategic Communications (MarComm) team and received a wealth of materials such as class catalogues, newsletters, and photographs. The Library is very grateful for the good-quality scanner that MarComm donated to the Library for the Archives project and is looking forward to digitizing additional materials from MarComm.
Currently we are especially interested in additional document and photographs from before the year 2000. We would like to have construction photos, pictures of the land before there were any buildings, and anything that shows the college’s growth. Anything digital can be emailed to Cat or Nancy. At this time because of a lack of space we cannot take physical items as donations, but in the future we will be interested in items that reflect the college’s history. We will be working on forms and processes for collections.
All of the Library personnel are very excited about the opportunity to create an Archive for NVC!
