Northwest Vista College welcomes Abreetta Bonner, M.Ed., who is the new Career Experience team leader. Her duties includes connecting students with experiential learning opportunities and equipping them with tools on how to articulate the marketable skills developed through these experiences.
She will also be working hand in hand with her team in connecting employers with our talented students for internships, job shadowing, research opportunities, etc. Additionally, Abreetta will be working with faculty and staff in creating streamlined processes for all of the experiential learning that NVC students will be engaging in throughout the year.
“I am so excited to be a part of the Northwest Vista family and looking forward to connecting with everyone,” Abreetta says.
Prior to NVC, she worked four years as a career counselor and adjunct faculty at The University of Texas at San Antonio. She worked intricately with exploratory students in addition to elevating the student employment programs across campus and created a professional student development program for undergraduates.
Originally from Houston, Abreetta moved to San Antonio in 2014 when she started as the coordinator of Career Services at the University of the Incarnate Word. She graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies and a Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education. She currently completed all coursework for her Ph.D in Educational Leadership with a concentration in policy studies at UTSA. Abreetta is writing her dissertation focusing on how Black women navigate their classroom to career journey at Hispanic-Serving Institutions. She plans to earn her Ph.D in the fall of 2022.
