Congratulations to faculty Melinda Zepeda, who has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar 2019.
Melinda will participate in “Understanding Middle Eastern Millennials through Literature, Culture, and Media,” which will take place in Tucson, Arizona, from August 4 through August 10.
The week-long institute will engage 28 community college and university educators in study of Middle East diversity and change. Through a variety of humanities disciplines (history, literature, gender studies, religion, the arts, media) and different sources of information (scholarly articles, book chapters, films, lectures by renowned scholars) participants will explore diverse perspectives on many complex issues facing the contemporary Middle East.
The focus on youth, who make up 60 percent of the population of most Middle Eastern countries, provides important insights into those societies and the transformations they are undergoing. Here’s a link for more program information: https://middleeastmillennials.sbs.arizona.edu/institute-overview
