Author, Author! Catarina “Cat” Garza, NVC library assistant II, was one of a handful of college students recently recognized with a Caldwell Memorial Award.
The Caldwell Awards were established to promote research and writing about Texas and local history. Cat won first place among upper division students for her essay, “The Fairmount Hotel: Moving the Past into the Present.”
Her essay was published in the 2019 issue of “Touchstone,” the undergraduate research journal of the Walter Prescott Webb Historical Society. In addition, her photograph of the Fairmount Hotel was chosen for the cover of “Touchstone.” She is currently working on an article for the “Handbook of Texas.”
