Northwest Vista College has many scholarships to donate to but one that took center stage on Sept. 24 is the one for the Mexican American Studies or MAS program. It was recently highlighted as part of the annual Employee Giving Back Campaign.
And there’s a lot happening in the MAS field right now.
UTSA was awarded a $5 million grant, from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support community partnerships focused on advancing a more democratic society through racial justice and social equity called “Democratizing Racial Justice.” Dr. Sandra D. Garza, coordinator for the MAS program at NVC, was selected to serve as project liaison for the Alamo Colleges. She will work closely with the UTSA project leads and site coordinators at Palo Alto College and San Antonio College in creating Educators’ Academies for faculty, shareable teaching guides, and strengthening transfer pathways to UTSA for students committed to the study of racial justice as a career path. To learn more about the grant, go here.
Since last week, NVC raised $40,376.48. The goal is $50,000. On Oct. 1 at 7 pm, there will be an interactive viewing party for the film, ‘Spare Parts’ made possible by NVC Library and IT.
You can support the MAS scholarship program through the NVC Gives Back Campaign. Go to ACES, click on Alamo Gives Back, and pick the MAS scholarship program.
